Have you ever brought a foundation or a makeup product, because you liked the bottle, a friend recommended it, or the sweet sales lady suggest it?
ONLY…..
To find you can’t use it!
It is frustrating and is forces us to throw money down the drain by adding it to our “collection “ you know the one I am talking about, the draw or maybe even the cupboard filled with tried and tested products that didn’t deliver!
Or even worse …..if you have brought the wrong foundation, "and that ain’t cheap stuff", you don’t want to waste it so you walk around for the next few months with a less than average base that is a combination of different foundation from the "collection" until you can justify another hopeful trip to the beauty department.
Now for you, it might be a different product, blush, lipstick, eyeliner the list goes on.
The point I am trying to make is the struggle is real.
And in my experience what this comes down to is the lack of education for women on how to shop for and understand what product will work best from them.
Its, not anybody’s fault but let’s take a look at why this is happening.
Most women learn about make through these 3 key learning channels currently available.
Most women learn about make through these 3 key learning channels currently available.
1. Our Friends and family
2.The leading trend “YOUTUBE
3.The Sales Lady
When it comes to learning and understanding you’re makeup needs these channels are flawed, due to one key factor.
The information you receive is biased and not personalized!
Let’s look at the most traditional way first: learning from your Family/ Friends.
From a good place, they provide advice from what they know which is based on their needs from the knowledge they have and this knowledge may be current, outdated or just plain wrong.
But none the less its Makeup advice tailored to their needs and not yours making it bais information if applied to you.
Pretty basic stuff right?
However quite often overlooked and not talked about.
For Example, you have a friend Sally,
and Sally says try this foundation, our try the foundation she just raved about only to find it is horrible on you.
Let’s take a look at why
Sally has dry skin and likes a matte finish
You have oily skin and like a matte finish.
Although you both like the same finish the products you use to achieve the desired finish will be different.
This is because your skin type determines the type of foundation you need to create the desired finish.
This principle can apply to all the areas of your makeup.
Now let's take a look at the YOU TUBERS these guys rock and I give them so much love, but what I do want to point out is that they are just like our friends and family but virtual and are slightly more informed.
But once again anything they recommend or show you the product based on them and their needs, making the majority of the information bias.
Now cosmetic counter with this saleslady.
Surely we can get tailored advice!
One would hope, now I write this after working years on the cosmetic floor the information, while the information helpful it too biased you see they work for a company and they have a product to sell in a very competitive world.
Behind the scenes, it is a high pressured sales environment, geared around passion but the number one goal is to score rank and dominate the space, So that leaves us with stressed-out saleswomen who needed to say what they need too, so they sell and make the budget.
Now I am not saying the product is crap, but I am saying, this is something to consider, the product can be great but wrong for you, but sold to you in order to make KPI,s
The defining factor in achieving a great makeup is not in the cost or brand of the makeup, it lies in your ability to understand your needs and matching the right product.”
